This is an attempt at the world record for the world’s biggest ceilidh in the playing

fields opposite Huntly Castle. Clachan yell will supply the music from 1700-1800

for an hour of non-stop dancing. this is just a small part of a huge event, Relay For

Life, organised by Cancer Research UK. There will be 2 days of singing, dancing

and other entertainment.

The Deportees in concert.

The Deportees are a 5-piece folky-rocky-country-ish tuneful outfit from Aberdeen. It would be unfair to lump them into a specific genre, hence the rather linguistically-incorrect introduction, but they certainly have a discernible folk influence with a strong emphasis on vocal harmonies. They’re recently formed and deserve checking out.  Singer and guitarist Adam Keenan spoke with Aberdeen Voice’s Ross Cunningham.

Fiona Soe Paing is a half-Scottish, half-Burmese composer, producer and vocalist based in Aberdeenshire. She creates ‘skeletal, off-world electronica’, based around minimal beats and interesting synthesiser noises. With a beautiful and unique voice and a full range of visuals, live performances are fascinating and compelling experiences which have earned rave reviews from all corners of the music and art world. Her haunting vocal melodies are sung sometimes in English and Burmese but are also supplemented by an invented No Man’s Language, with phonetics created purely for creative purposes.
