Black Country 5-piece EofE are coming to play Aberdeen Downstairs on 23rd February, supporting UK metallers Glamour of the Kill. The tour will be in support of their brand new single ‘Stars In Hollywood’ (out 09/03) which is currently on the Kerrang! Radio and XFM playlists.

Last year, the band supported both McBusted and The Vamps on their mammouth UK tours, culminating 2014 with their own headline tour which resulted in them selling out their hometown date at Birmingham Institute.

Following the unveiling of their debut track ‘Bridges’ in November, EofE, continue to leave their mark with the release of the band’s first official single, ‘Stars In Hollywood’, due March 9th.

With their ever-growing army of devoted supporters, ‘Stars In Hollywood’ is a second helping of scintillating pop rock from EofE, sending out a real statement of intent. The song lyrically explores the theme of determination and hope, with aspirations of eventually leaving their hometown, moving on to bigger things and rising to the top.

‘Stars In Hollywood’ is the next chapter of the EofE story, placing the band firmly alongside the likes of fellow UK rockers You Me At Six and Mallory Knox .

“EofE are going to be the next big thing” – Sophie K (Team Rock Radio)

On a cold Wednesday night in October, Shane Filan came to Aberdeen Music Hall and played to a venue full of excited females.

Shane first came to the attention of his loyal fans back in 1998 when the Irish band Westlife appeared on the scene.

They continued to have hit after hit for many years, including 26 top ten singles – 14 of these were number ones before disbanding and going their own ways in 2012.

Shane has since gone solo and is touring his current album, You and Me. He played a mixture of his new songs, interspersed with all the old Westlife hits ,including What makes a man (2000), Uptown Girl (2001), which had the whole crowd singing along, and the all-time favourite Flying Without Wings (1999), much to the delight of the crowd.

In between songs a girl shouts,

“Shane it’s my birthday.”

He starts to sing happy birthday to her , she moves nearer the stage and he bends down and pecks her on the cheek. When it finishes someone shouts from the balcony:

“I got my pension today.”

He says,

“Really?”

She says,

“No, it was 2 years ago.”

He laughs,

“this is why I love coming to Scotland it’s always a bit madder than anywhere else….”

Whether you like this kind of music or not , you have to admire the man, the crowd are on their feet from the moment he came on stage and continue to stand throughout. And that’s what entertainment is about, pleasing all the fans that come to see you.

The launch of Grampian Transport Museum’s 2013 season offers the public a host of exciting additions. Aberdeen Voice photographer Rob attended a preview and was highly impressed with the pride and passion which museum personnel have invested in the preparation of the exhibitions, epitomised by Marketing and Events Organiser Chris Anderson spending 3 hours polishing the chrome on the royal Daimler.

In this its 30th anniversary year, staff and volunteers at the Grampian Transport Museum in Alford have been busy making preparations for it re-opening on Friday the 29th of March.
A brand new exhibition area, ‘Pop Icons’, will reflect popular culture and design from the 1960s to the 1990s, bookended by one of the first and last Minis ever built.

This winter has also seen the addition of several exciting new exhibits to the museum’s collection including Billy Connolly’s motor trike – as featured in his world tour of England, Wales and Ireland – and a stunning supercar manufactured by Ascari, a company with fascinating connections to the North East of Scotland.

Grampian Transport Museum are also delighted to announce that a star of the big screen will also be unveiled at it’s preview event tomorrow evening.

A late addition to the 2013 season, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ will be on display to visitors from this Friday.
The car is one of 6 built for filming the iconic 1960’s movie and is coming to the end of an extensive restoration which GTM visitors will be able to view for the first time.

For the first time those visiting the museum in 2013 will be able to scan QR codes to view further content on their mobile device.

To facilitate this, codes will be placed next to various exhibits in order that visitors can view a range of images and video content from both the museum’s own archive and the British Pathe archives.

Looking forward to the opening Museum Curator Mike Ward said:

“Our staff and volunteers have been working hard to prepare for the new season and we are now putting the final touches together before we welcome our first visitors of 2013 on the 29th March.

“We are sure that visitors will enjoy the new exhibition and the opportunity to interact further with the collection through the use of new technology.”

The new season will be launched when the museum opens at 10am on Friday 29th March.
