Aberdeen Forward…Aberdeen Forward…Aberdeen Forward…Aberdeen Forward

The people of the Huntly area might want to visit Huntly Farmers’ Market on Saturday 7th August to speak to the Zero Waste Volunteers on the Aberdeen Forward stall where there will be advice offered on where to purchase discounted compost bins and what to put in them. They can advise on how to get the green/brown mix right, so that you don’t end up with a smelly, slimy mess.

They will also be advising on other ways to prevent and minimise waste – buying peat free compost, how to cut back on the junk mail coming through your door through the Stop the Drop campaign and how to help stop throwing food away or make better use of your leftovers through the Love Food Hate Waste campaign.
Aberdeen Forward itself is an environmental charity which runs several projects aimed at reducing material going to landfill, whilst educating people on how best to reuse materials. Contact Aberdeen Forward on 01224 560360
Zero Waste Scotland works with businesses, communities, individuals and local authorities to reduce waste, improve recycling rates and use resources more sustainably.

The Scottish Government helps funds these projects to support delivery of its Zero Waste Plan. More information can be found at www.zerowastescotland.org.uk

GIVE AND TAKE DAY AT INVERURIE TOWN HALL

The following week Aberdeen Forward and Aberdeenshire Council are holding a Give and Take day at Inverurie Town Hall (Saturday 14 August)
Anyone can take along, for example, furniture, kitchenware, books, DVDs, CDs, toys, plants and gardenware between 0830 and 1200. Clothes, paint, videos and electrical goods, unfortunately, CANNOT be accepted. From 1000 until 1500 the Town Hall will be open to the public who can come along and take items they want for FREE, yes, FREE.

There will be a delivery service available for large items and the local Scout group will be providing teas, coffees and home bakes

The organisers hope that families and individuals on low incomes will benefit from getting useful items for free and that by holding this event, items that might have gone to landfill will be found a new home.
If you wish to arrange large items to be collected to take to the event, contact Aberdeen Forward on 01224 560360 or email admin@abzforward.plus.com for more details.
